Freshman Year Digital Arts Projects
Brave New World Visual Project
This project was called Brave New World. It was a joint project, meaning we worked on it in both Humanities and Digital Arts. We were responsible for writing a text of any form in Humanities. It could be on any topic related to Brave New World, a dystopian novel by Aldous Huxley or any other dystopian novel. In Digital Arts we were asked to make a visual to go along with our essay. The visual didn't have to relate to our writing in Humanities, but that was an option. I chose to compare how the governments in 1984 by George Orwell and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley enforce a view of truth and beauty on their society to gain control and establish synthetic happiness in their world. I also chose to have my poster relate to my essay. To see my essay, click here. I drew the letters SOMA and drew the face i n the middle of the O and scanned the letters and the face into Photoshop where I edited it, added text, and filters to make the poster more aesthetically pleasing.
Pre-Historic Art Flash Animation
|
Project Overview1. During the lecture, I was interested in the city with no streets, Catul Hoyuk. I was so perplexed by Catul Hoyuk that I decided to make my animation about the city with no streets. In my animation, you will see the background with a door on each side of the room. This is supposed to represent how all the rooms are connected. They are connected because the town has no streets so the only way that the can travel throughout the town is on the roof. THat is also represented in my animation by the ladder that's going to the hole in the roof that is also used as a chimney.

2. Throughout this project, I have grown a lot in Flash. At the beginning of this project, I was somewhat clueless with the program and I still kind of am. Flash has an abundance of confusing features that are difficult to figure out, but over the course of the project I grew to be comfortable with the tools. This process of becoming familiar with the program was very similar to the process of becoming familiar with the program.
3. The thing that I enjoyed the most in Adobe Flash was the Motion Tween and the Shape Tween. These are the two most basic commands that allow you to move things around the screen and alter their characteristics. The first motion tween that you will see is in the very beginning of my animation when the title moves across the screen while shrinking in size, changing in color, and rotating in a circle. The first shape tween that you see in my animation is when the mountain background changes to the background of the room. This is important to have because it makes changing the background of your animation exciting.
4. In the future, I might use Adobe Flash to make advertisents for various companies. I could use the program to advertise for my dad's company or other companies in my community. ALso, you will occasionaly see flyers around my town that ask for creation of cool posters or projects to help with community benefits. I could use Flash to make project for those contests.

XtxraNormal Animation
Project DescriptionDuring this project we were assigned to make and animation on the website Xtranormal.com. This website is a basic animation website in which you select what set of characters you wish to use, what setting you want to use, and then you write a storyline for your animation. The website provides you with several variations for which camera perspective you would like to use, what motions or sounds your characters should make. ALthough the website provides decent variation options, it's extremely basic and aggravating because the characters aren't able to move. This website was a good introduction to animation. Teacher Animal Project
Reflection of Project-
Why did you like this project?
I like the teacher animal project mainly because I had the liberty to choose the subject of the project and what we were going to turn him into. Also, it was a good experience for me because I was allowed to experiment a little in Photoshop before and during this project. This project was my first project in Photoshop.
Why do you think you were successful at this project?
I was successful at this project because I asked for help when I needed it. I think I was resourceful by asking my friends at neighboring computers and Adobe before asking Ms. Roxy for help.
What would you recommend to an incoming freshmen before starting this project?
I would remind them to experience with the tools before they use them. If they were going to use a tool but they didn't know how the tool would affect the picture, they should experiment with the tool on another picture first so they don't mess up their project.
If you were going to do this project again, what Adobe Photoshop skill would you really push yourself on?
If I was going to do this project again, I would push myself on refinement. How the project looks in the end is the most important factor of the project. If I had refined my project some more, I think I would have been more pleased with it.
Description of Project
In this project we took the face of any teacher of our choice and pasted it onto the body of any animal or creature of our choice. We were also required to resize the image, add a background image, creatively fit our text to the picture, and many other tasks. Overall this was an extremely difficult project especially because it was many of the students in my class's first project in Photoshop.
